Edition Originale. Cette "histoire patriotique" (Palau) de la conquête africaine contient l'exposé par l'auteur des raisons qui motivaient la possession du Riff marocain par l'Espagne.
La signature par le Maroc et l'Espagne d'un accord sur le statut juridique de la place espagnole de Melilla, avait provoqué le soulèvement des habitants du Riff ce qui conduisit l'Espagne à déclarer la guerre au Maroc. La confrontation se termina le 25 mars 1860 avec la signature de la paix de Wad-Ras.
C'est dans ce contexte de guerre hispano-marocaine que furent publiées a Saragosse ces "Mémoires sur le Riff, sa conquête et sa colonisation", où l'auteur encourageait l'armée espagnole à mener à bien cette conquête.
Le texte avertit notamment de la "terrible barbarie du Maroc" (p.23), et il préconise, comme méthode de conquête et pacification du territoire, sa colonisation à l'exemple de ce qui s'était fait en Australie avec les déportés.
Couverture imprimées originales conservées. Ex-libris héraldique en couleurs: "J. Basabe". Très bon exemplaire.

First Edition of this extremely rare work dedicated to the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores archipelago (Atlantic Ocean), which was discovered by Cabral in 1432: history, flora and fauna, commerce, monuments, etc.
It is illustrated with 35 plates, designed and lithographed by the author, depicting images of the island, its buildings, people, etc.
Very rare imprint of Ponta Delgada, the port of Sao Miguel and the most important town in the archipelago.

1). First Edition in French. This translation of John Almon's "Review of Mr. Pitt's Administration", on Pitt´s American policy is especially interesting as regards its translator. Le Chevalier de Champigny was an attentive observer of events in the American continent, which inspired him to publish a book on Louisiana in 1773, which today is extremely rare ("La Louisiane ensanglantée").
For this translation, which he offered to the King of Prussia, he created important notes, in which he laid down his opinions on the policy of American colonisation.
2). Assumed translation of this essay on the same theme as the previous work.
Some marks on the first pages of the first text with slight repairs to the half title margin, without affecting the text. Some browning. Nice XIX century binding.

Original drawing accompanied by the underlying caption, showing a wooden farmhouse and its various outhouses.
The house is located on the bank of a river, protected by trees and surrounded by a meadow, a paddock, etc. Some domestic animals can be observed in the vicinity of the house (a pig, sheep, cattle) in addition to another animal, which appears to be an armadillo, running along the length of the picket fence,.
Utensils are also depicted (barrels, cooking pots) as well as a dugout made from the hollowed out trunk of a tree, etc.
The figure of a woman can be seen standing on the threshold of the main house.
This pretty simple-style picture, perhaps represents a French settlement in North America. It is signed "Aline Perreire" (or "Berreire").
A section of the manuscript's caption has been erased.
